Sis, you know the feeling….
You get invited to a party, and suddenly the preparation begins.
“What am I going to wear?”
“Do I have time to get my hair done?”
(Because if I don’t, I’m not going!) 😂
“Do I need to buy something new?”
“What should I bring?”
Just like me, you start thinking about how you’re going to show up. You want to look right, feel right, and make sure you’re prepared before walking through the door.
And honestly, sometimes we approach God the same way.
We spend so much of our lives preparing ourselves.
Preparing to be better. Trying to fix our mistakes. Making an effort to break bad habits. Trying to become more disciplined and somehow more “deserving.”
And sometimes, we convince ourselves that if we can just get it together, then we can finally come to God.
But what if I told you that you have already received an invitation?
An invitation to the biggest party of our entire lives!
And here’s the best part:
You don’t have to prepare for this one.
You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come.
You don’t have to fix your past before accepting the invitation.
You don’t have to become good enough to earn your seat at the table.
Because truthfully:
You can’t save yourself.
Not by being good enough or by doing “good things.”
Not by fixing your past or trying harder.
And that may sound discouraging… until you realize that you were never meant to save yourself.
So, who can?
Jesus.
Ephesians 1:3–6 reminds us that before we ever did anything to earn God’s love, He had already chosen to love us.
God didn’t wait for you to get your life together, stop making mistakes, become more spiritual, or become more deserving before extending the invitation.
Instead…
In love, He made a way for you.
… inviting you with a rob and a ring.
The Gospel is not the story of humanity working its way up to God.
It is the story of God coming down to rescue humanity.
Jesus did what we could never do for ourselves.
And through Him, we are not simply invited to come for a few hours and then leave.
We are adopted.
We become sons and daughters.
We belong to the family.
So stop standing outside the door, thinking you need to get yourself together before you can come in.
You don’t have to spend hours getting ready for this party.
You don’t have to show up with the perfect outfit or the perfect past.
The invitation has already been extended.
The preparation has already been made.
All because of love and grace.
You can’t save yourself, but Jesus can.
And the best part?
Jesus already did.
